Installation costs vary widely because each home is unique. For newer single family homes, we see installations range from about $500 to $1,200 plus permit. What factors most affect the price?
First, your electrical panel must have the open capacity to support the additional EV charging load. Electrical panels without sufficient capacity could require an upgrade, a sub-panel, or more. More powerful charging stations need heavier circuitry.
Next, the “terrain” and distance between your new charging station and your electrical panel has a big impact on cost.
Finally, an electrical permit from your city is a “must-have” for the safety and insuring of your home. Permit prices are set by your city and paid by the homeowner. Installers are often required to prepare drawings and “permit packages” for approval plus participate in final inspection. This effort can affect price.
